The Empress is queen of queens. She is the wife archetype. Radiating warmth, she gazes at the dove (and beyond into the eyes of her husband). Two of the cherubs are with her and two with the Emperor. The two cards are really only halves of one unit. The pelican feeding her young off her own blood supply is a symbol of the self-sacrifice of motherhood.
